From clandestinity to Congress
An Analysis of the Voluntary Termination of Pregnancy Legislative Debate in Argentina In 2018, after decades of feminist struggle, Argentina underwent an unprecedented and historic legislative debate for the right to abortion. During three months, 845 speakers both for and against abortion legalization presented their knowledge and opinions at the committees� plenary sessions and at the Chamber of Deputies and Senate sessions. Despite the Senate's rejection of the bill, there was a general sensation of social decriminalization driven by a mass mobilization which has crossed the country borders into many neighboring countries. This document systematizes the arguments presented by experts, to contribute to the social and legislative debates from the whole region, and help the �green wave� keep on growing until abortion is legal throughout Latin America.
